Welcome to Adopt MEow!

AdoptMEow is a site dedicated to the foster and shelter cats of Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, which is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit
organization based in Arlington, Virginia.  Homeward Trails Animal Rescue works to rescue both cats and dogs from rural, low-income,
high-kill shelters in Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia.

This site is not the official site of Homeward Trails, however it is run by HTAR volunteers, in order to highlight some of our special
kitties who are in need of a forever home!  We will also inform you of any kitties who may be in need of special donations to cover the
costs of surgeries or other health issues.  This is also a site for adoptive families to share their stories and pictures.

    THOSE DOG DAYS OF
             SUMMER!
Meet some of our Dog-Loving Kitties...

Dexter
Meet Dexter!  He is a very relaxed and easy-going guy!  This all white
cutie pie just loves everyone he meets!  He enjoys other cats, dogs, and
people.  And cats, dogs, and people just seem to love Dexter right back!
He's very adaptable.  We think that he may be deaf in one ear, but that
does not seem to bother him or hinder him in any way.

The 3-T Kittens:
                      Tristan, Tara,
                            & Tracy
These three lovely young kittens were saved from one of
our high-kill shelters in West Virginia.  They are all very
sweet and loving...and, of course, get the "kitten crazies"
sometimes!  They are very bonded...so they need to be
adopted in pairs (don't worry, we'll find a buddy for the
remaining kitten...unless you feel called to adopt all 3!)

ROCKO
Rocko is a handsome brown tabby...who is about 1-2 years
young.  He has sweet little white mittens and paws.  Rocko
loves to be held like a baby and carried around.  He is one
mellow guy!  Rocko came from a shelter where he was the
resident dog tester!  So when they wanted to find out if a
dog was good with cats, they introduced those dogs to
Rocko to find out!  With his gentle nature, Rocko should
be great with cat-friendly dogs!

                         Misty
Misty is a beautiful calico kitten--about 5 months old--
who ADORES her resident dogs!  She loves to play and
wrestle with them.  And when that is done, she will nap
with them.  She likes other cats, but is content living a
life without them.  Misty is very sweet and lots of fun to
                                                        wacth!

Mocha
Mocha was saved from a gassing chamber just 3
days before her 5 babies were born.  All of them
have been adopted now and she would love to find
a forever home of her own now!  Mocha is a young
adult torti--a lovely type of kitty that is known for
their unique and loving personality.  Mocha is no
exception!  She loves other cats and dogs as well
as people.  This affectionate little girl would love to show you her personality--her torti-tude!

Carlos & Carmella
After being abandoned by someone and spending the beginning of their life under a porch,
Carlos and Carmella would love to find a home where they can watch their porch from inside,
not under it!  These two sweethearts are about 3 months old.  Carlos is the brown tabby while
Carmella is a lovely patched torbie.  Both of them are very friendly with the other kitties in
their home.  And they both love the dogs there.  Carlos will even cuddle up with them!  They
would love to be adopted together, but if you have another young kitty, they would enjoy that
too!

                      Cali-Girl
Cali-Girl is a beauty from the inside out!  She was born with a virus
in her eye.  Since she wasn't cared for properly, she lost this one eye.
However it doesn't really bother her...and it gives her character!  Our
vet said that her other eye is fine.  Cali-Girl is about 1 year old.
Please don't overlook her because of this...she is truly a sweetheat!
She gets along famously with the cats and dogs in her foster home!

Hazelnut
Hazelnut is a sweet ex-momma cat who arrived
with her babies and was skin and bones.  Hazelnut
is still small but her personality really shines
through now!  She is so loving and sweet!  She likes
to be with people and will let you carry her around
while she purrs, purrs, purrs.

including Blake & Crystal, Salt & Pepper, Kahlo, Lexy, and Bruno were adopted!  Smudge
and Tiffany still remain available for adoption.

sleek black female kitty.
She is about 1-2 years old.
Felicia is friendly and LOVES
attention from her people.

she is currently residing!

Black Cats are Lucky!

Did you know that Black Cats
are the most likely to be put
to sleep and the least likely
to get adopted?  This is
because of a number of old
wives tales that paint them
as unlucky.  Also, a number
of people think black cats all
look the same or are boring.

We find this hard to believe
after knowing tons of black
cats over our years in
rescue!  Black cats are just
FULL of personality!

Don't buy into the bias...
